Welcome to Class 5Bg

Last week we were looking at sound and how it travels.  We set up and conducted some experiments which helped us understand how sounds travels from one place to another.  In one of the experiements we saw rice jumping up and down when we banged on a tray above the bowl.  The sound travelled through the air and hit the cling film causing it to vibrate.  In another test we heard sound after the vibrations travelled through the fork, up the string and into our ears.

Also we continued listening to The Invention of Hugo Cabrett by Brian Selznick.  From the book we have been writing about the chapters and learning how to do cross-hatch drawings.  There are some really good cross-hatch drawings in the book.

The last test was today and that test was a mental maths test. And it is also the end of term and someones birthday to.

We have done tests about maths spellings and others but most of them have been about footprint in space. Our spelling test was about space.

In Literacy we have had a test about a boy called Joe and this other boy had some boots that lets you walk on walls.We had to write commanding instructions.

In topic we have been making pin hole camera,s and every thing you see is upside down and the rong way round.
After that we watched a program called the Antiques road show and made one of our own.

Today in 5B we have been working on making pin hole cameras. Mr Burgess made on and it didnt work. We’v been using saws and Mr Burgess was using a drill to make a hole in the pringle pots. And demenstated how we should use the saw and how to do everything els.

In 5B we have been listering to a auido story abou the great invention of Hugo Cabret and doing a book reveiw on it. Its about Hugo and his bdad findes an autotom and its broken then he fixes it then he puts a pen into its hand and its starts to write, thats what Hugo thinks but it draws instead. It dared a picture of the moon with a telescope in it. Then before we had a go of drawing the automtom.

In art we have been drawing the the automaton out of Hugo Cabera. We have had to copy a picture that the teacher had printed out on a piece of paper. Some of the people havnt finished this drawing yet.  We have had to draw all the little features using crosshatching. Before we did that we was drawing a picture which was on the board. We spaced the little bits of the sea to make it look like we had shaded it. This was a very good effect on the sea.

In science we have all being learning about circuits. We have created circuits with our teacher. We have used lots of batteries to see when the bulb will go out. We  have also memorised some of the symbols. We have used these symbols to create and draw circuits in our book. We have also been looking at the errors of the circuits which our class teacher has drawn on the board.

In comprehension we have been skimming texts and writing notes next to each paragraph so we dont have to keep looking back. We have also been looking at questions which are about the author saying about words and what do they mean. If I say what does beck and call mean we have to write what each word means then put them both together to find the answer.
